Footwear is even harder because different brands cut shoes very differently. Smaller shops can be surprisingly friendly if they care about repeat customers. If the first order goes well, I slowly try more products from the same place. A good store usually answers questions quickly and does not hide behind canned messages. Some pieces look shiny online but feel like plastic when you open the package.

I also started paying attention to how websites display sizing charts for clothing. I do not trust only the star rating, I like to see detailed photos and longer comments. I like when they mention whether the fabric has stretch or not, that detail matters a lot. In the past I have wasted money on items that looked good in photos but felt cheap in real life. Sometimes one good quality item is better than five very cheap ones. I like when a shop clearly shows PD, lens height and bridge width in millimeters. Having a tracking number that works on common sites is very convenient. Good stitching usually means the item will not fall apart after one or two washes.
